Quality of the European logistics network will be further improved by the expansion of multimodal transport facilities

News Item Entered: Wednesday, January 10, 2007

(Essen/Rostock, 10 January 2007) The new logistics center at the Seaport of Rostock, Germany shows Schenker continuing to extend its position as a leading European supplier of land transport services. Hans-Jörg Hager, Member of the Board of Management of Schenker AG responsible for European Land Transport and CEO of Schenker Deutschland AG, comments: “This strategically significant investment in an additional multimodal interface between the different carriers – truck, ship and rail – will enhance the quality of our uniquely effective European network. Customers will benefit directly from this expansion of our existing partial load and complete load shipments, which makes sense in both economic and ecological terms.”

The decisive factor in the choice of the site for the new facility was the outstanding infrastructure of the Seaport of Rostock, as well as the large number of ferry lines and roll-on / roll-off services represented at the port. “The opening of the logistics center in Rostock means a boost for our northbound and eastbound transport operations – to Scandinavia, Russia and the Baltic countries,” added Winfried Palmen-Dréan, head of the Schenker branch office in Güstrow and responsible for the new site at the Baltic seaport. Schenker will be purchasing another 35 rail-capable trailers in the first quarter of 2007, he announced, with a view to meeting the future demand for multimodal transport services.

With annual sales of 8.9 billion euros, 42,000 employees and about 1,100 offices around the world, Schenker is one of the world’s leading providers of integrated logistics services, offering land operations, air and sea freight as well as comprehensive logistics solutions and global supply chain management from a single source. Schenker is a part of DB Logistics, the Transportation and Logistics Division of Deutsche Bahn AG.
