Item Entered: Wednesday, January 12, 2005
Schenker has been appointed the official logistics partner for the Winteruniversiade to be held in the Austrian city of Innsbruck/Seefeld, from January 12 to 24, 2005.
(Essen / Innsbruck, 01/12/2005) As the official logistics provider, Schenker will support the arriving university sports associations and the organizational committee ISOC with logistics solutions for team equipment, medical apparatus, food and sponsor materials. Ranking after the Olympic Games, the Winteruniversiade is the second largest winter sports event in the world.
Mag. Dr. Michael Bielowski, Chairman of the organizational committee, and Hans Dieter Salcher, Head of Schenker in Innsbruck and Tyrol, announced the partnership jointly. Mag. Dr. Michael Bielowski is convinced: “Schenker is a leading international logistics provider. With this globally active partner, we gave the 48 participating delegations a reliable contact for dealing with their bulky baggage both in their native countries and in Innsbruck.”
“We have been a partner of the Austrian Olympic Committee for many years,” adds Hans Dieter Salcher. “The challenges posed by a Winteruniversiade, for example the customs formalities, should not be underestimated. We will certainly be able to draw on our years of experience here.”
The 22nd Winteruniversiade will be the biggest sports event in Austria since the last Olympic Winter Games in 1976.
