(Mississauga, Ontario, 08 February 2008) Schenker of Canada Limited today announced that it has been selected the Exclusive Supplier of Logistics Services for the Canadian Bobsleigh and Skeleton Teams. The agreement will remain in effect until the end of the 2011 season and includes logistics services to the Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton (BCS) team for all international competition, World Cups, test events and the games in 2010.
Canada’s top male and female bobsleigh pilots, Pierre Lueders and Helen Upperton, recently drove their Canada 1 sleds to bronze medal positions on the podium at a World Cup stop in the birthplace of the sport, St. Moritz, Switzerland. Canadian skeleton team members Carla Pavan and Mellisa Hollingsworth won silver and bronze medals respectively at the same event.
“Once we finalized our agreement with BCS, we were busy organizing for the World Cup,” said John Ellis, Manager Global Sports Events, Schenker of Canada. “We moved seven sleds for Canada as well as 56 sleds for the other international teams from our Calgary airport offices to the Calgary Olympic Park; then on to Salt Lake City, Lake Placid, New York, and over to Frankfurt. After the European leg of the World Cup tour is completed, we will bring the Canadian sleds home to Calgary and then get ready to move them again for the first test event at Whistler in March.”
“The amount of effort to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of our sleds throughout Europe is unbelievable to the normal traveller,” said Don Wilson, executive director, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton. “Our world class athletes demand a world class partner to handle the logistics of this type of operation that will ensure the sleds arrive on time and in the same condition they started. We look forward to the journey towards the podium with Schenker on our team.”
