For the Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and Athens
Schenker is co-partner Germany
Schenker AG, Essen, and its subsidiary company, Schenker Deutschland AG, are sponsoring the German National Olympic Committee (NOC) and the Deutsche Sporthilfe foundation as co-partners. The contract concluded with Deutsche Sport-Marketing GmbH (DSM) covers the period until 2004, encompassing the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
"The smooth running and the success of the Olympic Games in Sydney, for which our Australian subsidiary was an official service provider, showed that major sporting events require a special logistics service", emphasized Håkan Larsson, CEO of Schenker AG. "That applies to the participants and the equipment providers just as much as to the journalists and TV crews from all over the world. That is why Schenker in the USA is the official supplier of customs and freight-forwarding services for the Olympic Winter Games in 2002 to be held in Salt Lake City." Schenker will also be involved in the Paralympic Winter Games in 2002 and is the service provider for the US Olympic team until 2004. Schenker in Germany was an official service provider for the Munich Olympic Games in 1972. "Our commitment to the Olympics makes it crystal clear just how important integrated logistics services are for all aspects of living", said Hans-Jörg Hager, CEO of Schenker Deutschland AG and a member of the Management Board of Schenker AG. "Here too, the criteria that count are punctuality, performance, flexibility and quality."
Hans-Günter Bierke, Managing Director of DSM, evaluates the co-partnership as the consequent continuation of the excellent cooperation at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney: "The NOC and DSM are very pleased that the high quality of the cooperation with Schenker will be continued in the co-partnership for Salt Lake City and Athens. The smooth handling and transport of the athletes' sports equipment is a necessary prerequisite for excellent performances at the Olympic Games."
Schenker Deutschland AG, based in Frankfurt am Main, is the leading provider of integrated logistics services on the German market, with about 9,100 employees at approximately 110 sites and annual sales approaching DEM 3.4 billion.
With annual sales of Euro 5.2 billion, almost 28,000 employees and about 1,000 offices around the world, the Stinnes subsidiary Schenker is one of the world's leading providers of integrated logistics services, offering land transport, air and sea freight as well as comprehensive logistics solutions and global supply chain management from a single source.
