Schenker is the Official Logistics Supplier for the Volvo Ocean Race Round the World 2005-06

A new perspective on global logistics solutions for one of the world’s top sports properties, Schenker will be a key part of the Volvo Event Management organizing team
(Essen / Gothenburg, 04/04/2005) Schenker is the Official Logistics Supplier for the Volvo Ocean Race Round the World 2005-06. The partnership was announced at a common press conference of Volvo and Schenker at the Volvo Headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, on April 4, 2005.
The Volvo Ocean Race is one of the world’s only true global sports properties. Spanning nine months and covering five continents, the event is the world’s premier ocean race – secure in its position of attracting the world’s best professional sailors and all of its related stakeholders – all a community of best-in-class. The Volvo Ocean Race 2001-02 achieved a cumulative audience of over 800 million viewers ranking it among the top international sporting events.
The Volvo Ocean Race will start with an in port race in Sanxenxo, Galicia/Spain, on November 5, 2005. The start of leg one, the first offshore leg, will be from Vigo, Galicia, on November 12, 2005. The Volvo Ocean Race is a round the world yacht race featuring nine offshore legs. The 2005-06 event will feature an inshore race at each of the main stopover ports.
Schenker will provide global logistics solutions and services. These will include airfreight, seafreight and land operations, customs clearance, materials handling equipment, warehousing, spare parts distribution and events services for the Volvo Ocean Race Event syndicates, their sponsors and suppliers, the broadcasters and press agents, and port city management teams at all respective port locations.

The Schenker Team for the Volvo Ocean Race will be lead by Schenker Sweden AB and the dedicated global SCHENKERglobalsportsevents team. The already existing relationships between Schenker and Volvo AB in Gothenburg and the experience and knowledge of the SCHENKERglobalsportsevents team will ensure a high level of understanding and collaboration in the lead up, during the race, and for the demobilization.
