(Antwerp, 2 May 2007) “Thanks to our fully integrated organisation, our customers can now make effective use of the worldwide Schenker/BAX network,” says Rudi Debras, CEO of Schenker NV. “Our 750 employees offer the full range of logistics services, from European road transport to international air and ocean freight services, including storage and logistics activities with high added value.”

Following the acquisition of BAX Global at the beginning of 2006, the operational integration of the two companies was carefully prepared and carried out over the course of last year. In Antwerp the BAX ocean freight department was moved to the Schenker location (which also functions as Belgian Corporate Office and back office), while in Zaventem the Schenker air freight department was added to the BAX location. Further, all operational activities (warehousing, inbound and outbound) and back office activities (customer service, sales, IT and HR) were fully integrated with one another.

“Since BAX has already called on us for European overland transport on behalf of its larger customers for a number of years now, we already knew each other fairly well, and so the integration went ahead very smoothly.”

As a result, Schenker now has seven locations in Belgium: Rekkem (air and ocean freight activities), Waregem (road transport services), Antwerp (ocean freight activities, back office and HQ), Mechelen (road transport services), Zaventem (air freight activities), Willebroek (logistics) and Liège (dedicated services), together representing a turnover of 300 million euros.

This integration represents a win/win situation for Schenker, BAX and especially our customers: not only has it strengthened our geographical network in Europe, America and Asia, but it also combines our logistics know-how so as to provide outstanding service.

Schenker and BAX Global are in the process of integrating around the world. The joint organisation has a team of about 55,000 experts at 1,500 locations in 150 countries. Together Schenker and BAX are now the No. 1 source for European land transportation, No. 2 for global air freight, No. 3 for global ocean freight, No. 6 for global contract logistics and No. 3 for North American integrated heavy freight.
